Ari Lennox
Courtney Shanade Salter, better known by her stage name of Ari Lennox, is an American singer and musician born in Washington, D.C., who was the first female to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. On the 21st of October, 2016 she dropped Pho, her debut EP under the Dreamville Records label. It was at this point that she began to gain the attention of her peers. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album, debuted on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox started posting her music to the internet in 2012 as she launched her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. The year 2014 saw Ari Lennox release her single Bound along with her mixtape, which she released herself, Five Finger Discount. The 21st of July, 2015 was the day she appeared on Omen's album Elephant Eyes in the song Sweat It Out. J. Cole asked her to collaborate with him for Rihanna's references. Later in the calendar, her songs circulated around Dreamville. The official signing ceremony was held with Dreamville Records on 8 December. The singer appeared on the collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers II featuring the track Backseat Cozz. In October 21st, 2016 the debut EP of Ari Lennox was released, titled Pho. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as being an opener on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. She was joined by EarthGang. In 2018, she appeared in two of her songs with labelmates EarthGang in the video for Nothing but the Best. and Bas on Icarus. On the 16th of July in 2018, Ari Lennox released the first single, Whipped Cream from her debut album Shea Butter Baby with an accompanied music video on the 5th of September. She released her second single, Grampa on November 9. The 13th of November, she dropped two singles titled No One or Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track that she recorded alongside Cole on the soundtrack to Creed II on November 16th. It then came out as a standalone single in February 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. The song was followed by the music video which debuted that was released on February 20, 2019, and it surpassed the milestone of 3 million views on YouTube within the first week. She was one of the support acts for 6LACK in their From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December of 2018.
